Dukan Diet - Will The World's Hottest Diet Make You Thin?

Dukan Diet - Will The World's Hottest Diet Make You Thin?

If 5 million people are losing weight with The Dukan Diet, will it work for you too?
Although Dr. Pierre Dukan began working with his patients to lose weight 30 years ago, The Dukan Diet really started spreading through word of mouth 10 years ago when Dukan first published his ideas in France, his home country.
What is it that 5 million people like about the Dukan diet and makes it unique?
  • It promises lightning fast results
  • Provides a special formula to create permanent weight loss
  • Works on the idea that the body has a hard time gaining weight eating only one food group
How does The Dukan Diet get lighting fast results?
Pierre Dukan believes the only way to have lasting weight loss is to see encouraging results immediately. His methods focus on losing weight by eating 100 pure foods, most of which are lean protein. According to Dukan, the perfect formula to get fat is to eat a balanced diet of 50 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent fats, and 20 percent protein (a formula resembling mother's milk).
The Dukan Diet has grown in popularity in France and 20 other countries. It's outstanding results come from the theory that eating only one food group (protein in this case) makes it hard to gain weight and causes you to burn fat at a lightning speed.

Dukan got his start helping people lose weight back in the 1970s when one of his patients came to him with the complaint that he had tried everything to lose weight and was willing to do whatever Dukan told him as long as he didn't have to give up meat.
Dukan obliged by putting his patient on a lean meat diet, which went against everything Dukan had learned in school and read about nutrition.
But Dukan's patient lost weight at a rate of a pound a day and kept it off for the first time in his life. Dukan spent the next 30 years honing his methods and working with his patients to come up with what he thinks is the winning formula or "the promised land," as he calls it.
By putting his patients on a plan with four mini diets, the first which focuses on eating protein rich foods, Dukan found they were happier, healthier, and most importantly for looks, thinner with glowing skin.
Naysayers of The Dukan Diet claim their is no science to back up his plan, but Dukan insists his methods will work for you and has 30 years of case studies to supplement his methods.

The 5 Mistakes Most People Make On The Dukan Diet

The 5 Mistakes Most People Make On The Dukan Diet

The Dukan Diet is one of the fastest growing new diets. With so many people in a hurry to get started and experience the fast weight loss and low hunger program it's possible that just a few will make mistakes in their haste to lose weight. In this article I will be looking at the five most common Dukan diet mistakes.

1. Not eating enough and feeling hungry
People used to starvation and calorie counting diets have a hard time getting used to the idea that they can eat as much as they want on the Dukan diet. There is a misconception that in order to be losing weight you must feel hungry all the time. Accordingly, some people new to the Dukan diet will subconsciously cut back on their portion sizes to prevent themselves feeling satisfied and so feel like they are on a diet (and losing weight). You do not need to be feeling hungry all the time to be losing weight! The Dukan diet is a low hunger diet, you should not be feeling hungry while you are following this weight loss program. If you do feel hungry then eat something (as long as it is on the list of allowed foods!)

2. Not having enough variety in your diet
When you first start on the Dukan diet you may have to refer several times to the Dukan diet book. It is natural to want to double-check what foods are allowed and what is not allowed. It may take a week or two to have the list memorized so that putting Dukan diet friendly meals together becomes second nature. For some people, once they find a meal they enjoy eating they then stick to this meal, thinking it easier to just stay with what they know is safe and easy. The downside to this plan is that meal-times quickly become repetitive and boring. The once enjoyable and eagerly anticipated meal solution becomes a dreaded chore. So, to avoid becoming sick of the mere sight of turkey kebabs in a tikka and mint sauce (for example) make sure to take time to experiment and widen your Dukan diet menu.

3. Constantly stepping on the scales
The weight loss on the Dukan diet, especially during the Attack Phase can be very fast. Dieters will get a motivating buzz stepping on the scales to see the pounds have been falling off. However, weight does fluctuate throughout the day. The scales may show an exciting loss of a couple of pounds in the morning but show you to have actually gained a pound in the afternoon! One day might see weight loss and another show weight gain. This is unnecessarily upsetting.
You must also factor in to this that most household scales are not very accurate machines. Move the scales slightly to the left or right and you'll probably find a different result when you step on them.
Weighing should be done no more frequently than once as week. Once a month would be better in my opinion. Weight loss should always be thought off in terms of week-by-week at the very least, preferably month-by-month. Which brings me on to the next mistake.

4. Making too much out of occasional slips
It is very easy to slip on your diet and eat something that you shouldn't have. Someone may offer you a cookie and without thinking you're eating it before you realize what you're doing. You find yourself in a situation in which refusing food or drink would be inappropriate and rude. On the Dukan diet there are also little accidental slips such has having full fat milk in your coffee by accident or eating a fattier cut of meat that you though you were having. I remember when I was first on the Dukan I accidentally picked up a packet of roast pork slices rather than roast turkey. For a couple of minutes I was devastated until I managed to put things into proportion!
One little slip while you're on the Dukan diet is nothing. Imagine you have a couple of glasses of wine one day. Naughty, naughty, wine is not allowed while on the Dukan. But making too much of this slip would be madness! Let's say that the extra calories for the wine was 280 kcal. That is 280 kcal that you shouldn't have had for sure. But instead of thinking of this as 280 kcal extra for that day consider it as extra for the week. This means that this slip resulted in you consuming an extra 40 kcal a day for the next month.
So instead of spending time worrying about drinking those glasses of wine and feeling miserable, think instead of burning of those extra 40 kcal each day for a month. This won't be too difficult! Drinking a liter of ice-water will burn of about that much (you don't have to drink it all at once!) due to the fact your body will burn calories simply bringing up the temperature of the water.

5. Thinking that the Dukan Diet works by magic
It's not hard to see why so many people appear to the think the Dukan diet works by magic. The lack of hunger and quick weight loss seems so different to all other diets that the food combinations must seem like its working by magic. Some people talk about the diet as if their stomachs are cauldrons and the foods they eat are ingredients of a magic weight loss potion. They think if they get one thing wrong, eat too much or this or too little or that, eat the wrong food or drink the wrong drink, then the spell will be broken and all the weight loss will cease!
Of course this isn't the case. There is nothing magical about the way that the Dukan diet works. All that happens is what happens with all diets that work. The dieters simply burn off more calories than they consume and the weight loss occurs when their bodies use the stored fat for energy. The great thing about the Dukan diet, why so many people are singing its praises, is that the whole process is so much easier and quicker than is experienced with other diets. The high protein and low carbohydrate menus on the Dukan mean that people naturally consume fewer calories simply because they feel satisfied quicker and don't feel hungry or crave food for longer. If you do slip or eat the wrong food, then on that day you will just have eaten more calories, nothing will be ruined or undone, as long as you go straight back to the program the weight loss will continue as before.

The Dukan Diet Fast Weight Loss Program - Read This If You're On The Fence

The Dukan Diet Fast Weight Loss Program - Read This If You're On The Fence

The Dukan diet is hot news, there are many people proclaiming the diet as their weight loss savior and there are others panning the diet regime as a fad and flash in the pan. Well, as far as flash in the pan goes, I don't care about the 10 year history of the fast weight loss plan, nor do I give a fig about the tens of thousands evangelizing the Dukan. I have a year of experience myself and I have the combined testimony of 1000s of people on our Dukan diet dairy forum all standing by the diet and providing evidence that yes, this regime does work. All I care about is genuine people, honestly sharing their Dukan dieting experiences.
And in this spirit, I'd like to share some experiences myself. There has been some criticism that people who lose weight on the Dukan diet put weight back on. Well, hello, welcome to the real world. There are people who go on diets, who successfully lose weight and then go back to their old ways and, inevitably, the weight comes back. What's wrong with this?
I'll tell you what's wrong with this... nothing!
It makes me wonder what planet these critics of the Dukan diet are on when they lay into people who lost weight on the Dukan diet but then put some weight back on. This can happen to anyone. Sometimes, for some people, events and circumstances take precedence and you know what? The diet sometimes doesn't seem so important. And Amen to that.

I've always, from the first post on this Dukan diet dairy to this post, maintained that if your diet solution is making you miserable, or if your weight suddenly isn't the most important thing in your life, then make a change. I've met enough wonderful and beautiful people who are, what our Society calls, overweight, whom I've respected and valued that I know for sure that size and shape matters little when it comes to assessing a person's worth. I've also met people for whom their weight and shape makes them miserable and they want to change.
For the people who want to change... and only to them and for the sole reason that they want to change, I recommend the Dukan diet. Why? Because, it is the quickest, easiest and most life-changing weight loss solution I have ever experienced.
If you want to lose weight - like I wanted to lose weight when I was 30lbs heavier than I felt happy with - then the Dukan diet must be a candidate for consideration.
Critics of the diet claim that it isn't balanced. My answer to that? If you're overweight, if you're living off fast food, snacks, chocolate and sweets - how balanced is your diet right now? The Dukan diet introduces vegetables and then fruits, whole wheat breads and oat bran in a way than makes these ingredients warmly anticipated and looked forward to. Before I went on the Dukan diet, I hated and avoided all fruit and vegetables. Now these foods are a cherished part of my weekly menu.
Being overweight most of my adult life, I flitted from diet to diet either never losing any significant weight or losing 30 lbs and then putting it all back on again within weeks of ending the diet.

The Dukan Diet isn't like this. Why? Well I believe that the reason that this diet is different is because the Dukan diet, unlike other diets, teaches you to appreciate, enjoy and look forward to healthy fruits and vegetables.
I thought I was a hopeless case. In my thirties and set in my ways. I knew what foods I liked and wanted and nothing was going to change this. In fact, I felt hopeless. I thought that this was the way I was and increasing weight gain was going to be an inevitable aspect of my life.
Well I was wrong!
And I thank goodness I discovered the Dukan diet.
The Dukan diet changed the way I think about food - for the better - and it was this change that enabled me to lose weight, and keep the weight off, so easily. I bought the official book, for less than I previously spent on one meal at McDonalds, KFC, or Burger King, and followed the plan. Within the first few days I was visibly losing weight without feeling hunger. This was the easiest and quickest diet I had ever been on!
But the biggest surprise for me was my anticipation - the way I looked forward to - healthy and nutritious vegetables. And this wasn't because I was hungry! Far from it. Before starting this diet, I used to awake not feeling hungry only to feel starving a hour or so later. For the rest of the day, all I could think about was food. By the end of the day I'd eaten so much I felt stuffed and bloated. I was plagued with the symptoms of over-indulgence - heartburn, indigestion and bloatedness.
Within a day or so of beginning the diet I'd not only said goodbye to these unpleasant symptoms but I'd lost those powerful food-cravings that made my life so miserable.
I learned to appreciate what I was putting into my mouth and my taste-buds started over. Within a couple of weeks eating healthy and nutritious food wasn't some far-off hope but a daily reality.
I believe that the success of the Dukan diet is purely down to results. The way this regime works is simple, although some seem to believe it is some kind of diet 'magic'. The high protein content and low carbohydrate makes the body feel full and satisfied quicker. The typical Western diet, it seems to me, is full of fat and carbs, two things that increase appetite rather than satisfy it - why do you think restaurants offer fatty snacks like peanuts to encourage the appetite?
With the appetite naturally suppressed, I believe we have a chance to stop and think about what we're eating without constantly craving those delicious but deadly sweet and fatty snacks.
The Dukan diet is a fast weight loss diet. This means that people should notice that you've lost weight within days of beginning the regime. What better motivation to keep on going than the thought of what you've already accomplished?
I used to easily give up diets after a few weeks simply because I was craving food and couldn't see that I'd actually accomplished anything by starving myself! In fact you gain nothing by starving yourself. Any weight you initially lose will always be put back on. This diet is not a starvation diet - you can eat as much as you want while following the Dukan regime! Even while eating until you feel like stopping, if you follow this diet, you'll be losing weight. And the weight loss should be quick! Imagine being 3 weeks into a new diet, with friends and acquaintances already complimenting you on your obvious weight loss! How easily would you give that achievement up?

The Dukan diet is not a miracle diet. Nor is it some magical weight loss program that guarantees you'll shed with pounds with no effort. But in my opinion, and the opinion of hundreds of people using our forum alone, the Dukan diet is the easiest, quickest and most satisfying weight loss program currently out there.

Dukan Diet - Fast Weight Loss

Dukan Diet - Fast Weight Loss

When you need to lose pounds, why choose the Dukan Diet? Also termed the Dukan regime, the proteine diet or the Dukan method - the Dukan Diet is a super popular new French diet that incorporates a protein heavy regime with a long-term sensible method for maintaining weight loss.

The number one reason to choose the Dukan Diet is to 'mincir' as they say in French, to slim down or lose weight. If you want to shed pounds and get to your slimmest and sexiest weight, the Dukan Diet is an all-inclusive diet that allows you to eat flavorful real food and still lose weight fast and keep it off.

The method was created by French doctor Pierre Dukan. He advised a patient who was also a friend to eat only lean protein and drink water when the friend asked his advice about losing weight fast. Although he had no background in nutrition, the results were incredibly successful. Pierre Dukan became interested in nutrition and weight loss at that point and has continued to help people slim down or mincir for decades. For thirty years of practice, he has helped people in France lose weight and get slim and now his method is gaining huge popularity in the U.K. Now, it's time for the U.S. to get this French diet secret that has been a secret for too long.

The Dukan Method works in four distinct stages - the attack phase, the cruise phase, consolidation and the stabilization phase.
During the attack phase, you stick to a strict protein diet. Unlike the Atkin's diet, heavy fats, butter and cream are to be avoided. During the attack phase, you eat only lean meats, fish, shrimp, chicken, lobster, lean ham and lean beef. You can have herbs to season your food generously as well as non-fructose sweeteners.

High fat proteins and dairy products are not allowed during the attack phase. Eggs are fine but if cholesterol is a concern for you, limit the egg yolks during the attack phase.

Egg whites are a great source of lean protein and should be enjoyed during the attack phase of the dukan regime and throughout the diet. You lose most of the weight during the attack phase.
During the Dukan Diet Cruise phase, you can add in a long list of Dukan approved vegetables on alternating days. You go back and forth between an all protein day, then a protein and vegetable day and so on. Remain in this phase until you have shed pounds to your desired goal weight.

The consolidation phase is such an important phase. How long you will stay in the consolidation phase is based on how many pounds you have lost during the attack and cruise phases. This is a healthy way to lose weight and keep it off as Pierre Dukan noticed that most of his patients who had shed pounds struggled with that period after losing it and trying to keep it off. The consolidation phase allows you to add in the foods you love to eat as directed by the Dukan Diet Menu. The goal is to maintain your slim body for life.

In the stabilization phase, Dr. Dukan instructs you to eat as you like, hopefully in moderation of course, six days a week. On the seventh day, you must go back to your attack phase diet. For one day each week, consume only lean protein just as in the first phase of the diet. Remember, you will have learned tons of great Dukan Diet recipes to make tasty and delicious protein recipes so hopefully this won't be so bad.

Don't settle for cardboard fake food when you are dieting. Enjoy real delicious food with a Dukan Diet menu.

My Weight Loss Journey - The Dukan Diet

What do you think of the journey through the Dukan Diet?

The Dukan Diet

The Dukan Diet

The Dukan method has grown out of Doctor Pierre Dukan's 40 years of experience working with patients. He has devised a weight-loss method structured around 4 phases, two for losing weight, two for stabilising the weight you get down to, using a list of 100 permitted foods from which you can eat as much as you want.
This method, based on natural proteins, is nowadays acknowledged as one of the most effective tools available for tackling obesity worldwide.

The original method: a diet structured around 4 phases

les quatre phases DukanThe Dukan diet was the first to offer a structured, rigorous  approach with real results in 4 phases: 2 phases for losing weight and 2 phases for maintaining and stabilising your True Weight.

The attack phase: rapid and highly motivating weight loss
72 foods, high in natural proteins, to kick-start your dieting.

The cruise phase: gradually get down to your True Weight
You alternate NP days (Natural Proteins) with PV days (Proteins and Vegetables) as you reintroduce the 28 recommended vegetables.

The consolidation phase: re-educate your body to avoid putting weight back on.
You gradually reintroduce higher calorie foods and celebration meals. Each week your NP Thursday, your day of Natural Proteins, helps you readjust your True Weight if necessary, so that you avoid any rebound effect.
Consolidation is made up of the 100 unlimited permitted foods (proteins and vegetables), and you now add to them 1 portion of leg of lamb and pork fillet per week. You are no longer restricted to extra-lean ham without any fat or rind, you are now allowed to eat traditional cooked ham.
With this as your base, the following are added in ascending order:
Extras in the 1st half of consolidation
Extras in the 2nd half of consolidation
1 portion of fruit per day*
2 portions of fruit per day*
2 slices of wholemeal bread per day
2 slices of wholemeal bread per day
40 g (1 1/2 oz) hard cheese
40 g (1 1/2 oz) hard cheese
1 x 220 g (7 3/4 oz) portion of starchy foods per week
2 x 220 g (7 3/4 oz) portions of starchy foods per week
1 celebration meal per week**
2 celebration meals per week**
*Except bananas, grapes, figs and cherries
**Celebration meal = a "free" meal comprising an aperitif (wine, etc,), a starter, a main course and a portion of cheese  OR a dessert. During the meal the only thing you must do is serve yourself just once for each course.

The stabilisation phase: you are free to eat how you wish, with 3 simple rules you must follow for the rest of your life
• NP Thursdays: one day of natural proteins every week
• 20 minutes of walking every day and never use lifts or escalators
• 3 tablespoons of oat bran every day

100 permitted foods - the cornerstone of the system

100aliments autorisés

Get used to eating freely in a controlled way. As long as you stick to the permitted foods, you don't need to check how much you're eating. The Dukan Diet is firmly based around 100 permitted foods that you can eat as much as you want: 72 Pure Proteins, fish, meat, seafood, vegetable proteins, fat-free dairy products and 28 vegetables.

And let's not forget the foodstuff that is such a vital part of the Dukan method: oat bran.

Dieting while there is such food abundance all around us is unnatural, terribly trying and often a distressing experience. The Dukan method allows you to lose weight naturally by going back to those foods that mankind was built on, the very foods that the first men, the hunter-gatherers, ate.

Exercise: vital to the method

l'activité physique

Physical exercise is included in every phase of the method and has to be adapted to suit each individual. The minimum requirement is to walk every day. You are recommended to take other exercise that you enjoy such as aerobics, cycling, swimming, dance and fitness classes and so on. The important thing is to be active.

By taking exercise you use up calories, burn up your fat reserves and tone and firm up your skin.

The Dukan method: 35 years of innovation

Pierre Dukan was aware very early on of how people were suffering from weight problems and how the existing methods just didn't work. He made up his mind to offer a totally unique and innovative solution to tackle obesity and make his method even more effective: personalised and interactive online coaching.
