Diet Dessert Recipes: Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Pudding Cups

Diet Dessert Recipes: Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Pudding Cups

Diet dessert recipes can add just enough decadence to your healthy eating plan to keep you on track for your weight-loss goals. Being able to indulge in a sweet treat now and again without blowing your diet gives you a new lease on a lower-calorie lifestyle - one you can stick to permanently.
Reducing sugar in your diet is not only a sure-fire way to reduce calories, but it's also a good long-term healthy eating strategy. Decreasing the amount of sugar you eat lessens your risk of developing diabetes. If you have diabetes, cutting sugar is the best thing you can do to keep your diabetes under control.

Sugar-free instant puddings are a cornerstone of diet dessert recipes. They're rich, creamy and delicious, and contain a fraction of the calories found in their full-sugar counterparts.
In this diet dessert recipe, satin-smooth chocolate pudding envelops a light strawberry cream for a decadent taste sensation. It's the perfect fusion of chocolate-covered strawberry flavor and creamy pudding goodness. To pretty your desserts up a bit, you can garnish them with fresh mint leaves, or halve four strawberries and place them atop the finishing dollops of light whipped cream.
Ingredients:
1 4-serving-size package sugar-free instant chocolate pudding mix
2 cups low fat milk or soymilk
1 1/2 cups frozen light whipped topping, thawed
1/2 cup fresh strawberries, chopped (optional)
1 teaspoon strawberry-flavored extract
Few drops red food coloring
Additional frozen light whipped topping, thawed

Directions:
Prepare pudding mix according to package directions using the two cups of milk and set aside. In a small bowl, combine the dessert topping, strawberry extract, optional strawberries, and as much food coloring as you'd like.
In eight small dessert cups, layer half the pudding, followed by the strawberry-blended dessert topping. Top off cups with the remaining pudding. Cover the cups with foil or plastic wrap and chill for at least two hours, or until set. When ready to serve, uncover cups and top each with a dollop of the remaining whipped topping.

The Truths And Myths Of Low Carb Diets

The Truths And Myths Of Low Carb Diets

With all the diet programs that are published and advertised, the one that has received the most negative publicity and given a bad rap is the low carbohydrate diet, all you hear is "low fat is the way to go, stay away from fats, that's the answer", that's a bunch of bunk.
I feel that low fat diets are worthless and can cause more harm than good, ever since the low fat craze started in the late 1960's the obesity rate has grown in each decade since. That's why I'm writing this, the majority of the so called experts in the nutrition and diet industry have declared the low carb high protein diet dangerous. I have researched this extensively, have given seminars and talks regarding this, our radio show dedicated a segment on this and most importantly, I have done this successfully and guided others successfully with this style of dieting.
The obesity rates among Hispanics and Blacks has skyrocketed, the incidence of diabetes among these groups has also skyrocketed, the main reason being their diets consist mainly of carbohydrates and fats, the two don't mix well together, protein and fats do mix well together. Watching your intake of carbohydrates is very important for weight loss. Low carb diets or diets that teach food combining are very effective in weight loss, OK now for the myths.

Myth #1) The low carb diet is dangerous, the truth is that it is not, and has been proven over the years to be safe and extremely effective, Dr Atkins gets credit for this type of diet, but he was not even close to being the innovator, he just brought it mainstream, this brings us to myth #2.
Myth #2) The truth is the father of low carb, high protein dates back to 1863, William Banting of England who wrote a little booklet titled "Letter on Corpulence Addressed to the Public", William Banting is considered the father of low carbohydrate dieting. He proved over this over years helping people lose weight without any side effects.
Myth #3) Low carbs, high protein, and high fat raises cholesterol, the truth is it actually lowers cholesterol. For one year, researchers at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia followed 132 obese adults randomized into two groups. One restricted carbohydrate intake to less than 30 grams per day (low-carbohydrate diet); the other restricted caloric intake by 500 calories, with 30 percent of calories from fat (conventional diet). Eighty-three percent of the study group had diabetes or other risk factors for heart disease.
In the low-carb group, triglyceride levels decreased more and HDL ('good') cholesterol levels decreased less than in the low-fat group. (High levels of triglycerides, a fat in the blood, are associated with heart disease.) People with diabetes on the low-carb diet had better control of blood sugar.
In another research study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine involved 120 overweight people followed for six months. Researchers from Duke University found that participants on the low-carb diet lost an average of 26 pounds, compared to an average of 14 pounds lost by those on the low-fat diet The low-carbohydrate group had more beneficial changes in blood triglyceride levels and HDL cholesterol levels than the low-fat diet group. In this study, the low-carb diet groups also received vitamins and other nutritional supplements.
Myth #4) The low carb diet will raise my blood pressure, the truth is with lower LDL levels and VLDL levels, blood pressure levels drop. Lead author Dr William S. Yancy Jr, an associate professor of medicine at Duke, said their findings send an important message to people with high blood pressure who are trying to lose weight:
"If people have high blood pressure and a weight problem, a low-carbohydrate diet might be a better option than a weight loss medication," said Yancy, who is also a staff physician at the VA center in Durham where the study was conducted.
Myth #5) You need carbohydrates or glucose for brain function, the truth is if you are on a hardcore low carb high protein diet, where carbohydrates are non-existent, you are on what is called a Ketogenic Diet. When on such a strict diet, your body produces ketones in the absence of carbohydrates, then converts the ketones into a form of glucose that enables proper brain function. This brings us to the next myth.
Myth #6) You cannot eat any carbs on a high protein diet. Using the Atkins diet as an example, Atkins himself said on the Larry King show, "You can eat all the carbs your body allows as long as you do not gain weight". What he was talking about was when we reach our desired weight you then can add as many carbs to your diet until you start gaining weight, that is your threshold, for some people it is 50 grams a day for others it's 200 grams or more.
Myth #7) I will gain all my weight back if I stop my low carb diet. That is totally false, it does not matter what diet you choose, if you are successful in your weight loss and then stop your diet, 9 out of 10 times you revert back to your old eating habits, and start eating junk and over indulge, then of course you gain weight back.
Myth #8) Eating protein makes you fat, totally false, protein actually raises your calorie burning metabolism by as much as 30% over carbohydrates. When proteins are consumed, your body must digest and break them down into amino acids, this takes energy and plenty of it, this actually helps you lose weight not gain weight.
Myth #9) High protein diets include fats and fats are bad for me. Fats in the absence of carbohydrates burn more efficiently, and do not clog your arteries. As the studies show LDL's (low density lipoproteins) which are the artery cloggers, are lowered. The HDL's which are the good triglycerides are raised even though your fat intake is increased, that as mentioned above is attributed to low carb intake. Remember when I mentioned that carbs and fat don't mix, your body cannot efficiently break them down together, your liver is over burdened ends up converting the carbohydrates into fat, unless of course you are exercising like crazy.

Myth #10) I will not have any energy with the low carb diet, this is totally false, unless you are marathon runner or bodybuilder. When you consume small amounts of carbohydrates, your body needs another source of energy, when glycogen levels are gone, your body starts using fat for energy and combustion. If you are extremely active, then it will take about 2-3 weeks, after that your body is acclimated to your new eating habits and adjusts, energizing you as before. If you are involved in a endurance sport, then of course you need extra carbs to be competitive. If you are an athlete or workout extensively, then you probably would not be dieting anyway, and a low carb high carb is a mute point.
I hope this article has answered some of the questions or concerns you might have on high protein dieting. In my next article I will talk about supplementation when using this diet and also touch on which type of protein is best for you and how to combine foods effectively.

Which One is the Best Diet to Lose Fat?

Which One is the Best Diet to Lose Fat?

The trend nowadays is to look thin and slim. With all the media focus on healthy living it is not surprising that you would want to know which is the best diet to lose fat easily. Unfortunately, there are many types of diets around.
Detox Diet- the word detoxify has become the latest fad in losing weight. This diet aims to remove harsh toxins from your body based on the product the diet is promoting. The products can be from herbal based, acai berries and other fruits or plants.
Low Calorie Diet- this is a type of diet that would make you watch what you eat. Some would claim that this is the best diet to lose fat since it would still allow you to eat all kinds of food but at a controlled calorie count. Since it will not make you give up a certain food group like in some diets like the no-carb diet or the high-protein diet, you are still receiving complete nutritional value that is essential for proper bodily functions.

Portion Controlled Diet- this diet encourages you to have six to eight small meals throughout the day instead of three big meals. They claimed that this is why French women remain so thin and slim, it is because of this type of diet. Of course, this could very well be the best diet to lose fat for the French but it may not be the one for you. Unless you are French.
Low Carb Diet- this type of diet became extremely popular because of Dr. Atkins' bestseller diet book. It demands you to lower your intake of carbohydrates. These are foods like breads, pasta and rice to a bare minimum.
Instead, you eat more of the protein giving foods. This is good and many have shown progress on losing significant amounts of their body fat but what needs to be watched would be your body's metabolism. Since there is not much carbohydrates to burn, your own body will try to burn off the muscle tissues you have to gather energy.
Fruit Diet- as its name indicates, this is a diet that regards fruits as highly effective in losing weight. You will lose weight when you try this diet because you have excluded other food groups in your diet. This is a strict diet on pure fruits alone.

This will make you prone to sickness and disease. This is due to your body is not receiving the complete nutrients it needs to protect itself from harmful germs and viruses. Your immune system will be weakened.
This is not exactly the best diet to lose fat at all. Any diet that removes a food group is risky to try. It is better to consult a nutritionist before trying those types of diets.
There are more diets you can choose from and you alone can say which one is the best diet to lose fat for your own condition. Some will work like a laxative. Others might make you slim down and other might fail you.

Dukan Diet - Fast Weight Loss

Dukan Diet - Fast Weight Loss

When you need to lose pounds, why choose the Dukan Diet? Also termed the Dukan regime, the proteine diet or the Dukan method - the Dukan Diet is a super popular new French diet that incorporates a protein heavy regime with a long-term sensible method for maintaining weight loss.

The number one reason to choose the Dukan Diet is to 'mincir' as they say in French, to slim down or lose weight. If you want to shed pounds and get to your slimmest and sexiest weight, the Dukan Diet is an all-inclusive diet that allows you to eat flavorful real food and still lose weight fast and keep it off.

The method was created by French doctor Pierre Dukan. He advised a patient who was also a friend to eat only lean protein and drink water when the friend asked his advice about losing weight fast. Although he had no background in nutrition, the results were incredibly successful. Pierre Dukan became interested in nutrition and weight loss at that point and has continued to help people slim down or mincir for decades. For thirty years of practice, he has helped people in France lose weight and get slim and now his method is gaining huge popularity in the U.K. Now, it's time for the U.S. to get this French diet secret that has been a secret for too long.

The Dukan Method works in four distinct stages - the attack phase, the cruise phase, consolidation and the stabilization phase.
During the attack phase, you stick to a strict protein diet. Unlike the Atkin's diet, heavy fats, butter and cream are to be avoided. During the attack phase, you eat only lean meats, fish, shrimp, chicken, lobster, lean ham and lean beef. You can have herbs to season your food generously as well as non-fructose sweeteners.

High fat proteins and dairy products are not allowed during the attack phase. Eggs are fine but if cholesterol is a concern for you, limit the egg yolks during the attack phase.

Egg whites are a great source of lean protein and should be enjoyed during the attack phase of the dukan regime and throughout the diet. You lose most of the weight during the attack phase.
During the Dukan Diet Cruise phase, you can add in a long list of Dukan approved vegetables on alternating days. You go back and forth between an all protein day, then a protein and vegetable day and so on. Remain in this phase until you have shed pounds to your desired goal weight.

The consolidation phase is such an important phase. How long you will stay in the consolidation phase is based on how many pounds you have lost during the attack and cruise phases. This is a healthy way to lose weight and keep it off as Pierre Dukan noticed that most of his patients who had shed pounds struggled with that period after losing it and trying to keep it off. The consolidation phase allows you to add in the foods you love to eat as directed by the Dukan Diet Menu. The goal is to maintain your slim body for life.

In the stabilization phase, Dr. Dukan instructs you to eat as you like, hopefully in moderation of course, six days a week. On the seventh day, you must go back to your attack phase diet. For one day each week, consume only lean protein just as in the first phase of the diet. Remember, you will have learned tons of great Dukan Diet recipes to make tasty and delicious protein recipes so hopefully this won't be so bad.

Don't settle for cardboard fake food when you are dieting. Enjoy real delicious food with a Dukan Diet menu.

The 5 Mistakes Most People Make On The Dukan Diet

The 5 Mistakes Most People Make On The Dukan Diet

The Dukan Diet is one of the fastest growing new diets. With so many people in a hurry to get started and experience the fast weight loss and low hunger program it's possible that just a few will make mistakes in their haste to lose weight. In this article I will be looking at the five most common Dukan diet mistakes.

1. Not eating enough and feeling hungry
People used to starvation and calorie counting diets have a hard time getting used to the idea that they can eat as much as they want on the Dukan diet. There is a misconception that in order to be losing weight you must feel hungry all the time. Accordingly, some people new to the Dukan diet will subconsciously cut back on their portion sizes to prevent themselves feeling satisfied and so feel like they are on a diet (and losing weight). You do not need to be feeling hungry all the time to be losing weight! The Dukan diet is a low hunger diet, you should not be feeling hungry while you are following this weight loss program. If you do feel hungry then eat something (as long as it is on the list of allowed foods!)

2. Not having enough variety in your diet
When you first start on the Dukan diet you may have to refer several times to the Dukan diet book. It is natural to want to double-check what foods are allowed and what is not allowed. It may take a week or two to have the list memorized so that putting Dukan diet friendly meals together becomes second nature. For some people, once they find a meal they enjoy eating they then stick to this meal, thinking it easier to just stay with what they know is safe and easy. The downside to this plan is that meal-times quickly become repetitive and boring. The once enjoyable and eagerly anticipated meal solution becomes a dreaded chore. So, to avoid becoming sick of the mere sight of turkey kebabs in a tikka and mint sauce (for example) make sure to take time to experiment and widen your Dukan diet menu.

3. Constantly stepping on the scales
The weight loss on the Dukan diet, especially during the Attack Phase can be very fast. Dieters will get a motivating buzz stepping on the scales to see the pounds have been falling off. However, weight does fluctuate throughout the day. The scales may show an exciting loss of a couple of pounds in the morning but show you to have actually gained a pound in the afternoon! One day might see weight loss and another show weight gain. This is unnecessarily upsetting.
You must also factor in to this that most household scales are not very accurate machines. Move the scales slightly to the left or right and you'll probably find a different result when you step on them.
Weighing should be done no more frequently than once as week. Once a month would be better in my opinion. Weight loss should always be thought off in terms of week-by-week at the very least, preferably month-by-month. Which brings me on to the next mistake.

4. Making too much out of occasional slips
It is very easy to slip on your diet and eat something that you shouldn't have. Someone may offer you a cookie and without thinking you're eating it before you realize what you're doing. You find yourself in a situation in which refusing food or drink would be inappropriate and rude. On the Dukan diet there are also little accidental slips such has having full fat milk in your coffee by accident or eating a fattier cut of meat that you though you were having. I remember when I was first on the Dukan I accidentally picked up a packet of roast pork slices rather than roast turkey. For a couple of minutes I was devastated until I managed to put things into proportion!
One little slip while you're on the Dukan diet is nothing. Imagine you have a couple of glasses of wine one day. Naughty, naughty, wine is not allowed while on the Dukan. But making too much of this slip would be madness! Let's say that the extra calories for the wine was 280 kcal. That is 280 kcal that you shouldn't have had for sure. But instead of thinking of this as 280 kcal extra for that day consider it as extra for the week. This means that this slip resulted in you consuming an extra 40 kcal a day for the next month.
So instead of spending time worrying about drinking those glasses of wine and feeling miserable, think instead of burning of those extra 40 kcal each day for a month. This won't be too difficult! Drinking a liter of ice-water will burn of about that much (you don't have to drink it all at once!) due to the fact your body will burn calories simply bringing up the temperature of the water.

5. Thinking that the Dukan Diet works by magic

It's not hard to see why so many people appear to the think the Dukan diet works by magic. The lack of hunger and quick weight loss seems so different to all other diets that the food combinations must seem like its working by magic. Some people talk about the diet as if their stomachs are cauldrons and the foods they eat are ingredients of a magic weight loss potion. They think if they get one thing wrong, eat too much or this or too little or that, eat the wrong food or drink the wrong drink, then the spell will be broken and all the weight loss will cease!
Of course this isn't the case. There is nothing magical about the way that the Dukan diet works. All that happens is what happens with all diets that work. The dieters simply burn off more calories than they consume and the weight loss occurs when their bodies use the stored fat for energy. The great thing about the Dukan diet, why so many people are singing its praises, is that the whole process is so much easier and quicker than is experienced with other diets. The high protein and low carbohydrate menus on the Dukan mean that people naturally consume fewer calories simply because they feel satisfied quicker and don't feel hungry or crave food for longer. If you do slip or eat the wrong food, then on that day you will just have eaten more calories, nothing will be ruined or undone, as long as you go straight back to the program the weight loss will continue as before.
Start the change now. You can follow my progress on the Dukan diet from day one of the attack phase until the end. I have included all my recipes and menu ideas as well as top tips in getting the most out of your Dukan diet experience.
