Can You Lose Weight Fast? The Metabolism Diet - Truth Or Fiction?

Can You Lose Weight Fast? The Metabolism Diet - Truth Or Fiction?

How To Lose Weight Fast? 30lbs in 30 Days - Truth or Fiction?
Can you lose weight fast?
Can you really lose 30 pounds in 30 days? If so, can you burn an extra 3500 calories a day?
I have, like you, read lots of advertisements that make all kinds claims: like magic pills, complicated eating and exercise plans that claim to lose weight fast! Is this possible? Can we lose weight fast or is this a scam?
How would you like to lose twenty pounds of fat and keep it off forever?
First, can we lose weight fast?
Our popular culture would have us believe that the best way to lose weight is to lose it fast. This means putting ourselves in a state of denial and adhering to an eating regime that is usually unsustainable. Today, advertisers spend billions to show you how to get and eat fast foods, then they spend millions trying to convince you that you can lose weight fast. They tell you that you can lose decades of fat build retention in thirty days if you buy their products.
A lot of this marketing to lose the excess weight has been focused on eating carbohydrates and eliminating meat and protein from our diet. Perhaps we should all be vegetarians and just eat greens! It makes sense on a basic level, particularly when you look at our over eating, carbohydrate driven, fast food culture. However I personally have always thought there was something missing in the vegetarian ideals but I never new what it was. That is, until I heard Dr. Donald Layman speak.
According to Dr. Layman, the acknowledged worldwide expert in metabolism research, eating good protein is not the problem - in fact it is the solution. The truth exposed by Layman is that North American's are not eating enough good protein - particularly at the right time of day!
Layman states that belly fat is the most dangerous place to have excess weight, as it is a precursor to heart attacks and strokes. Typically, men gain fat around their waist and women gain the weight around the thighs. However both women and men are seeing their waistlines expand as they age. The average weight gain for both sexes is said to a minimum of ten pounds per decade. That's ten pounds of fat every ten years!
Take out a measuring tape and measure your waist. If your measurement is plus 35" plus for a woman or 40" plus a man, you are in the danger zone. You need to reduce your waistline and melt the belly fat now. Your life may depend on it!

Furthermore, as part of Dr. Layman's research, he states that losing weight fast may actually cause you to become fatter. If you have gained weight slowly for a decade you can't expect it to fall off in a few days.
Here's an exercise, do the math with me to see what it would actually take to lose weight fast.
Start with some basic measures like what is a Calorie (C), a Basal Metabolic rate (BMR), Lean Muscle Mass (LMM) and Activity Burn Rate (ABR). Do you really want to lose weight fast? Let's see?
Calculate your LMM for your BMR x C then add your ABR... STOP - this is way too complicated! Let's make it simple with some real numbers.
If you eat a very lean, healthy diet (like a bird!) your calorie intake is about 1940 C for women and 2550 C for men. The truth is that most of us have been gaining an average of 10 extra pounds of fat per decade. So we are all eating far more than this minimal amount of calories per day!
To lose weight fast, at the proposed rate of one pound per day - we need to burn an extra 3500 calories per day. To meet our goal to lose weight fast - 30lbs in 30 days, we have to eat like birds and burn about 6000 calories total per day.
This means we would need to do 4.2 hours of intense exercise per day on top of our normal activity and average BMR burn rate.

I guess it is possible, but not probable. Losing weight fast is definitely unlikely and it's probably dangerous! As a professional martial artist for 35 years and life long exercise teacher, I have never seen anyone accomplish anything like this. Not even close!
The truth is, even if you could lose weight this fast - the facts state that 99% percent of us would gain it all back - plus a couple of pounds!
Even worse is we would create a Yo-Yo effect by losing a high percentage muscle tissue during the weight loss stage. Then when we gained the weight back, most of this new excess would be fat. The yo-yo effect makes you fatter. So for all your suffering, self discipline and self-denial you wind up worse off than if you had never started.
Discouraged? Don't be - I do know what does work. I know, because I did it. I found a way to lose weight fast - a real loss of 9 lbs of fat and 2 1/2 inches off my waist in six weeks.

All without extra exercise, starving and super human discipline!
I'm losing the belly fat on a proper metabolic diet and it is not a sham or a scam. In fact it may be the easiest, most effect plan you have ever tried. It has over 30 years of clinical research and is now becoming the standard for losing weight effectively - particularly around the middle. Fasting, starving and living exclusively off salad are not necessary - in fact these diets work against your metabolic system and your long-term success to keep excess weight off.
Dr. Layman says you can naturally raise your metabolism by making balanced proteins your friend. Eat them early in the day and you will start to lose the cravings for carbohydrates and you'll begin to control your insulin needs. Your body will feel satisfied and energetic because your lean muscle tissue is being fed. Properly balanced proteins increase your muscle mass and your metabolic BMR when you eat the right foods at the right time. If you eat the right balance of lean proteins in the morning, you will super charge your metabolic system and begin to rebuild your muscle mass.
This alone will start you on the road to lose two decades of fat retention without starving or excessive exercise and then keep it off forever. In my opinion, it's a scam to say that you could lose 30lbs in 30 days! However, I do think you can lose weight fast - but a realistic goal is to lose 20 pounds of fat in about 90 days.

This goal isn't rocket science but is revolutionary. It's based on the metabolism work and research of Dr. Donald Layman and it works like nothing you have seen before. The truth is, I have found it to be the most effective and real life plan to lose the weight that I have ever experienced.

What You Need To Know About The DASH Diet

What You Need To Know About The DASH Diet

The foods we eat can affect our overall health. A diet rich in harmful elements like saturated fats and cholesterol is a sure way to hypertension and other diseases. On the other hand, the right choice of foods can lessen your risk of acquiring such diseases.
There is a particular eating plan that has been proven to lower hypertension or high blood pressure. This diet is called the DASH or Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension.
What is DASH diet?
The DASH diet is a result of clinical studies conducted by scientists of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The researchers found out that a diet high in potassium, magnesium, calcium, protein and fiber, and low in fat and cholesterol can drastically reduce high blood pressure.
The study showed that a diet rich in vegetables, fruits and low-fat dairy products had a big effect in reducing hypertension. It also showed that the DASH diet produces fast results, sometimes in as little as two weeks after starting the diet.
The DASH diet also emphasizes on three important nutrients: magnesium, calcium and potassium. These minerals are thought to help reduce high blood pressure. A normal 2,000-calorie diet contains 500 milligrams of magnesium, 4.7 grams of potassium and 1.2 grams of calcium.
Doing the DASH Diet
Following the DASH diet is very easy and takes little time in the choice and preparation of meals. Foods rich in fats and cholesterol are avoided. The dieter is advised to eat as much vegetables, fruits and cereals as possible.

Since the foods you eat in a DASH diet are high in fiber content, it is recommended that you slowly increase your consumption of fiber-rich food to avoid diarrhea and other digestive problems. You can gradually increase your fiber intake by eating an additional serving of fruits and vegetables in every meal.
Grains are also good sources of fiber, as well as the B-complex vitamins and minerals. Whole grains, whole wheat breads, bran, wheat germ and low-fat breakfast cereals are some of the grain products you can eat to increase your fiber consumption.
You can choose the food you eat by looking at the product labels of processed and packaged foods. Look for foods that are low in fat, saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol. Meats, chocolates, chips and fast foods are main sources of fat and cholesterol, so you should reduce your consumption of these foods.
If you decide to eat meat, limit your consumption to only six ounces a day, which is similar in size to a deck of cards. You can also eat more vegetables, cereals, pasta and beans into your meat dishes. Low-fat milk or skim milk is also a great source of protein without the excess fat and cholesterol.
For snacks, you can try canned or dried fruits, as well as fresh ones. There are also healthy snack options for those on the DASH diet such as graham crackers, unsalted nuts and low-fat yogurt.

It's Easy to DASH
The DASH diet is popular among many health buffs because it doesn't require any special meals and recipes. There are no special preparations and calorie-counting to be considered as long as consume more fruits and vegetables and reduce your intake of fat- and cholesterol-rich foods. The DASH diet is a healthy eating plan that focuses more on the three important minerals that are believed to have a beneficial effect on high blood pressure.
The DASH diet is great for people who prefer convenience and ease in their eating plans. With scientific evidence to back it up, the DASH diet offers a proven and tested diet system for people looking for good health.

How Water Helps You Lose Weight in Safe Diets

How Water Helps You Lose Weight in Safe Diets

We are all seeking safe diets that will help us lose weight quickly, but not kill us in the process. Right? Here's an easily overlooked factor that should be included in ALL safe diets...
The big theory - that water plays an important role in safe diets - is very popular and widespread. It is generally accepted as a key element in safe diets and few if any people argue it's effectiveness. When it comes to losing weight, we can use all the tips and pointers we can get, so let's check it out.
It seems simplistic, but safe diets are all about one thing, burning more calories than we take in. Sounds easy enough, how does water fit in?

Water is unique in that it has no calories and you never have to think twice about drinking it! Drink all you want - it's good for you! Not only do you never have to worry about it, most of us don't get enough! Make it a regular daily habit. Water helps safe diets in a myriad of ways...
First...Being calorie free means it can't screw up your diet! No extra weight gain there! In fact, drinking water before and with your meals will help you control your appetite and eat less.
Second...your system is full of toxins. Water helps to flush them out. It also helps hydrate your blood, cleanse the kidneys, assist the liver and more. There are quite a few health and general well being benefits.
Third...your brain function is enhanced by drinking water throughout the day! When you haven't been drinking enough, you start to feel tired, headachy and sluggish. Most of us have been living with these symptoms our whole lives and never realized the cause of them. A glass in the morning will help you feel alive and alert.
All safe diets tell you to eliminate sugar based drinks. Carbonated sodas, sugared fruit juices and so on. What to drink instead? Many of us reach for diet drinks, but they contain chemicals that are VERY bad for you. Water is the answer of course.

Not only are carbonated beverages packed with sugar (and sodium), but they also contain bunches of carcinogenic chemicals and food coloring. Some cause cancer, others mess up your hormonal balance, some are addictive (caffeine) and some damage brain cells.
If your diet includes them, it's not one of the safe diets and you should stop right away. They're just empty calories that pack on the pounds and offer no nutritional value. It is a challenge at first, but once you are weaned off them, you'll never return.
Try getting a water filter if you don't like the taste of the water from your faucets. Actually, you should get a filter even if the taste is no problem. Other choices could be to buy spring water.
Different brands taste differently so try several to find the one that is most to your liking.
Though it will help fill you up, water is NEVER a food substitute. Think of it as a supplement. You could drink enough so that you can skip meals without feeling hunger, but no safe diets would recommend this. It's a very bad, unhealthy idea. But, whenever tempted to reach for a fruit juice or soft drink, reach for the water instead.

Combating the Challenge of Belly Fat

Combating the Challenge of Belly Fat

It is apparently a frequent misconception that turning unwanted belly fat into a toned 6 pack, or even just a firm flat stomach, is down to grueling exercise routines involving abdominal crunches and sit-ups. The simple truth is that these workout plans do not deal with the issue of burning off the belly fat, they merely develop the muscle underneath. And nobody will see all the hard work you put into getting those abs if they are hidden under several layers of fat.
What You Eat
Before you begin to tackle the problem of burning off the additional fat around your belly, you need to deal with the matter of how it got there in the first place. And that, my friend, is all down to your diet. Some easy changes you can make right now include switching to wholemeal bread instead of white, as well as brown pasta and rice. Cut down on saturated fats and processed meats such as bacon and bologna. For a snack, try out some fruit instead of sweets, cakes and pastries.

When You Eat It
The key to burning up more calories is to keep your metabolic rate up. One way to do this is to have a healthy snack such as fruit flesh between meals. Another is to eat more meals during the day, but smaller portions.
You see, our ancestors are to blame for how are bodies behave. When food was scarce and the gap between one meal and the next could be prolonged, the body stored energy as excess fat. Our bodies haven't evolved. This means that the lengthier the gap between meals, the slower your metabolism burns energy. Eating frequent small meals will send the signal to your body that you aren't in danger of starving therefore there isn't a need to store energy as fat.
Burn Baby Burn
So now you have adjusted your eating routines to promote a thinner you, which workouts will accelerate the process and burn away your tummy fat very quickly? Cardiovascular workouts are most effective for burning of any unwanted fat from everywhere on the body. They need to be kept up for at least 30 minutes a day and you ought to do them for about 5 days a week.

While you might want to save the abdominal routines till after your tummy fat is gone, building up some of the major leg and arm muscles will also help your weight loss. Lean muscle requires greater energy to maintain, therefore just by developing more muscle mass you can make your body burn more calories, even when you are asleep!

Weight Loss Soups

Weight Loss Soups

Weight loss soups can be used as part of a calorie controlled diet. Good nourishment can be obtained from soups that have been made with good low calorie foods such as vegetables in season coupled with small amounts of pasta and protein. Exclude soups that contain cream or thickener and health and weight can be maintained with a good variety of soups. Homemade soups are recommended as you know what has gone into them and you can count the calories. If this is not always possible use tinned or packet soup but always read the labels for any hidden calories, fats etc.

Weight loss soups can be easily made using fresh vegetables i.e. carrots, onions, swede, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes, mushrooms etc and anything that you fancy that is low calorie. Avoid stilton cheese with broccoli however tempting! Pulses can be added in moderation i.e. lentils, beans, chick peas for protein. These soups can aid digestion, ease constipation and are good for your overall well being as well as helping you to consume fewer calories which in turn leads to weight loss.
Weight loss soup eaten before a meal can also curb the appetite as it can distend the stomach and increase the feeling of fullness leading to eating fewer calories for your main meal. You are then less inclined to want that mouth watering dessert.

Weight loss soups are so easy to prepare. You can use leftover vegetables from last night's dinner-just add an onion and some stock then blend! Take some to work for lunch time in a flask or container and heat up -this may curb your appetite enough not to want anything else or just to have some fruit and water. Be careful what you eat with the soup though-not TOO much bread- a couple of crisp breads are ideal. Weight loss soups can also be made very quickly using frozen vegetables again with an onion and stock to taste. Even garlic in soup is tasty! Be careful of excessive use of salt for flavour as this can cause fluid retention and is not good for people suffering with high blood pressure. Chinese soups can be extremely nutritious and low calorie and are ideal for weight loss soups. Recipes can be found on the website. Adding various spices and herbs to soup can add variation and interesting tastes. These include: thyme, parsley, dill, coriander, rosemary, sage, marjoram, tarragon etc.plus cumin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and any other herbs and spices that you are particular fond of- and are all low or none calorie. Avoid adding cream and cheese or anything which is high in fat.
So for overall good health and well being include lots of nutritious, low calorie soup as part of your daily consumption of food and watch the weight come off!

How Cleansing Diets Can Help With Weight Loss

How Cleansing Diets Can Help With Weight Loss

Given that there are so many products that you can choose from for weight loss, it becomes a confusing task to choose the perfect one that will give you the results you need. There are a lot of people who wish to find a safe and effective way of losing weight. They now understand that finding and sticking to a cleansing diet is really the way to go to eliminate those extra pounds.
Cleansing diets are known over all the world and they have been around for a long time. They work by helping the body get rid of excess pounds as well as toxins that contribute to difficult health issues. As we age, more and more toxins start to accumulate in the body and these can affect our internal organs such as the kidneys, colon, and digestive system. If these toxins are not removed, we are more prone to health problems like diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure, and heart attacks.
When you go on a cleansing diet, you are required to pick out the foods that you can eat and to stay away from those that are rich in cholesterol and sugar. This lets you experience fast weight loss since you are limiting your food intake and you are also doing internal cleansing. The foods that are in your diet will largely include fruits and vegetables which are high in fiber. As we all know, fiber is very important in cleansing diets. It allows our body to digest the foods properly and it assists us in getting rid of waste products.

Other than weight loss, you also benefit from having well-functioning internal organs since you rid them of those unwanted toxins.
The cleansing diet that works is one which can lead to fast weight loss. There are a lot to choose from, such as the master cleanse diet which, for the most part, is really a liquid diet. This is not good for those people who would rather have a gradual weight loss and cannot take the rigors of a demanding diet. You have other cleansing alternatives like hydrotherapy or herb use.
Often times a cleansing diet that works is one where you can find results in just one week. If you would rather find results that are longer lasting, you can keep on doing the program for a month at least. This will allow you to change your diet and your eating habits. You will also find that you would become more energetic and active.

If you wish to go on an effective diet and you are wondering about which one to try, visit my Natural Cleanse [http://www.natural-cleanse.org] website to find more useful information on this topic.

Vegan Diet Pros and Cons

Vegan Diet Pros and Cons

A strict vegan diet is one that excludes all forms of animal protein, including eggs, dairy products and any foodstuff derived from animals. There are pros and cons of vegan eating plans, some of which are related to your health and nutritional status.
Here's a look at health-related pros and cons.
Pros
Reduced Risk of Heart Disease
Several well-respected and well-known cardiologists recommend a vegan diet over the standard American diet, which is based on animal fat and animal protein. There is evidence that a low-fat plant-based diet may not only prevent, but actually reverse cardiovascular disease, although the process of how this works is unclear. It is known that high meat diets and high fat diets contribute to high cholesterol in the bloodstream, a risk factor for heart disease.

Reduced Risk of Type II Diabetes
The reduced risk of type II diabetes could be associated with a lower body weight, lower body fat, better blood glucose control or an increased intake of phytochemicals (compounds found only in plants) known to be beneficial for diabetes. It is likely that all of those factors combine to lower the risk.
Reduced Risk of Certain Kinds of Cancer
Certain kinds of cancer, such as colon cancer, are related to high meat consumption. Vegans usually get large amounts of fiber and a high fiber diet is associated with a reduced risk of colon cancer.
Chronic inflammation plays a role in all forms of cancer. Natural anti-inflammatories, most of which are found only in plant foods, fights this kind of chronic inflammation. In addition, increased intake of fruits and vegetables is accompanied by improved antioxidant status. Antioxidants prevent and help to reverse the free radical damage that plays a role in cancer development and progression.
Reduced Risk of Obesity
Although a vegan diet could be high in fat and high in calories, it is pretty difficult to consume enough calories to be overweight or obese by consuming plant foods alone. These foods are inherently low in calories and high in fiber. Fiber fills you up, but is not a significant source of calories.
Cons
Increased Risk of B12 Deficiency
Most experts agree that B12 supplementation is necessary for anyone following a strict vegan diet. B12 is an essential nutrient but is not found naturally in plant foods that have been washed properly. B12 is produced by bacteria. Meats and meat products contain it because the animal's food contains B12-producing bacteria. A lack of B12 can cause anemia, nerve damage and other health problems. B12 supplements are not derived from animal products. They are derived from laboratory-grown bacteria.
Increased Risk of Calcium Deficiency
Unless there are enough dark leafy greens and/or other sources of calcium in the diet, there is an increased risk of calcium deficiency. Vegans must carefully plan their diets, take a supplement or choose calcium fortified foods to avoid this deficiency.
Calcium deficiencies increase the risk of osteoporosis, an age-related condition in which the bones become brittle and break very easily.
Increased Risk of DHA and EPA Deficiency
DHA and EPA are essential omega-3 fatty acids. There are no vegan dietary sources of the fatty acids. They are found primarily in fatty fish. The body can produce the two from ALA, the omega-3 found in plant oils, but the process is a long and complex one. Research has shown that supplementation with ALA does not increase circulating blood levels of DHA in vegans. DHA is essential for normal brain function.
A lack of the nutrient can cause depression, learning difficulties, memory problems and other issues. Fish oil supplements provide both DHA and EPA. The vegan alternative to fish oil is marine algae, which is what fish eat and why their fat contains DHA.
Increased Risk of Amino Acid Deficiency
Most plant-based proteins are incomplete, meaning they do not provide all of the amino acids essential for humans. Soy is the only complete protein in the plant world. Tofu, tempeh and other soy-based products need to be included in the diet to get complete protein from a single food. This makes it difficult for a person with soy allergy to follow a strict vegan diet and is one of the reasons that many choose a less strict form of the diet that allows for fish consumption.
Other alternatives to prevent amino acid deficiency include food-combining and taking a dietary supplement that contains the missing amino acids. Food-combining refers to eating two different plant-foods, one providing the amino acids missing from the other. Beans and rice is a common example of a dish that provides complete protein, because rice contains the amino acids missing from beans.

Some of the better multi-nutritional supplements contain a variety of amino acids, along with the other nutrients that may be missing from a vegan diet. Taking a supplement is the easiest way to insure that you get the pros of the eating plan, but not the cons.

How to Play the Weightloss Game

How to Play the Weightloss Game

In many cases, our weightloss efforts seem like a losing game. However, weight control should be part of a well-balanced lifestyle, instead of it's primary occupation.
In America, and in most of the western world, weight-loss is both a serious business and a game. Have you ever asked yourself, "Is this the way people used to be affected and preoccupied with body weight a hundred years ago?" No! But it's our reality.
Yet still, current trends show that obesity is a growing problem today, despite our increased knowledge of the cause and of modern "treatment" methods. We have a fitness center in every neighborhood, but what does it say about how serious we are about losing extra body weight? I say, we're playing the game of weightloss.
Rules for playing the weight loss game - to lose
It's a truism, "keep on doing what you're doing, and you'll keep getting what your getting," - fat! It's like "playing" weightloss. So..., do I have a solution? Yes. How much does it cost? Nothing. Anyway, this article is not to tell you how to lose weight, it is about how to play the weight-loss game that the industry has been winning. Here's how...
1 - Don't change your diet. Even though you know that the fast food industry is not (and will never be) interested in your health, just keep on trusting them to design your diet with fast and big stuff.

2 - Don't eat your breakfast. Skip it, only eat when you feel like. Never mind that most of those who have weight problems usually have bad habits like missing the first and most important meal of the day.
3 - Keep despising vegans and vegetarians and their plant-based diets. Let your taste buds instead of your health-consciousness govern your appetite. Yeah, live to eat, rather than eat to live.

4 - Instead of eating two or three regular meals per day, with 4 to 6 hours between meal times, try to graze throughout the day - snack little by little. Tell yourself, healthy snacks are not fattening. In fact,...
5 - Eat late at night. Never mind that a meal takes about 4 hours to be completely digested... Why should it matter if you eat your dinner after 8 PM?

6 - Whenever our burden get a little too uncomfortable for us to carry, let us just take a few weight loss pills and get it off quickly - taking that surgery will work too, but it's irreversible. However, if you don't mind the knife, go ahead... play the game.
7 - Don't be concerned that the same habits that cause overweight also cause other lifestyle conditions such as type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and coronary problems. Just don't change your lifestyle.
8 - Well, keep listening to, and fall for those radio, TV, and newspaper ads that say you don't have to give up a thing to lose weight. Believe them, they have your money at heart.
Well, those are a few strategies we can use to play the weigh-tloss game and let our merchants win. Whether we play consciously or not, if we want to play, we need to know how to be good at it. So...
Consider this trend and decide whether or not you want to play the game...
Recent statistics on weight loss trends
  • In 1990, none of the states participating in a Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) had more than 15% prevalence in obesity. In fact, 10 states were below 10%. Eight years later...
  • By 1998, there 22 states had a prevalence greater than or equal to 25%. In fact, in that year, no states was found below the 10% margin of prevalence of obesity. And still another 8 years later...
  • In 2006, we found that only 4 states were still below the 20% mark. Twenty-two states were 25% or greater, with MS and VA more than 30%.
As the knowledge grows, so does the obesity problem. As the medical technology advances, so does the weight of the nation. As memberships at fitness centers and health clubs increase, so does the excess body weight in every neighborhood.
But there is improvement in one area - the profitability in the weight loss business industry. The business of weightloss is booming, partly because there are more patrons, and partly because the weightloss methods are cyclical and produce "seasonal," temporary, or transient results, at best.
One leading medical expert stated that 95% of those who lose weight by the various "fast-acting" pills, programs, and diets will re-gain their weight within a year after completing their program. Why? Because they haven't changed the cause of the problem - the lifestyle.
Just think of it...
Why would I go on a diet that I cannot maintain for the rest of my life? The apple patch diet! The grapefruit diet? Can I just eat grapefruit all the days of my life? Isn't there someway I can live my life so that my total calorie intake is less than or equal to my total calorie expenditure?
If not, then I'll just keep on playing the weightloss game.
