Honestly, how long did it take for you to get a larger stomach than what you are comfortable with? When you see marketing campaigns offering you an opportunity to sport a flat, toned middle in just two weeks it is just to get your attention. The honest approach is to offer you the opportunity to see physical changes in your stomach area or a reduction in your weight in two weeks by strictly following their abs program and not flat stomach in two weeks.
Anyone can have 6 packs abs but it takes a lot of work. What most people fail at is the adoption of the lifestyle change needed. I know, a lifestyle change can seem pretty daunting from the offset, but it is not as scary as you may think. Look at what it took for you to have the tummy fat in the first place. Eating what ever you like, when ever you like, constantly eating snacks high in salt or sugar between meals, drinking fizzy sodas daily, doing little or no exercise, consuming meals high in fat, salt and sugars and regularly visiting fast food restaurants (junk food).

The most contributing factor for anyone regardless of your age, whether you are 13 or 60, is eating above the recommended daily calories for a person of your age, sex and height. For example if your daily recommended calorie intake is 1650 calories per day and when you calculate everything you've actually eaten from the time you wake until the time you sleep you may find you have eaten 2000 calories. Do this on a daily bases, eating more than your body needs, will mean you have excess calories. What happens to this excess? It is stored in your body as fat. To get a flat stomach you need to lose the excess stored fat.
Losing stomach fat is not just about doing abdominal exercises alone. It's about changing what you eat and exercising to burn your excess body fat. Burn your body fat and you'll be burning your stomach fat.
Find and stick to a successful abs program, following the guided advice and you'll get a flat stomach. Try not to think about how long it is going to take you to get a flat stomach, but rather think along the lines of "I'm going to have a flat stomach no matter how long it takes". Build up your knowledge and you'll gain more confidence in your tummy flattening goal.

Attempting to lose the old belly "pooch" after having a baby can be challenging for many new moms. Why? Of course there can be many reasons, but one main reason is that they are just too darn busy taking care of their little one(s) to exercise, eat properly, get to the gym, etc. Sound familiar? Exercise after pregnancy doesn't have to be challenging. It just so happens that as long as you own a DVD player, most of these can be done right at home. In this article, we are going to talk about some good ab workouts for women, many that are all available on DVD.
1. Zumba. Many people have heard of Zumba by now but many may still not know exactly what type of workout it is. Zumba is a latin-inspired cardio dance workout that includes the merengue, salsa, cumbia and hip hop moves, to name a few. Zumba has really become a popular form of exercise due to it's fun moves and international music. You can buy it on DVD, take a Zumba class, and it is even offered on 3 major gaming systems (the Wii, XBox and PS3). I, personally, became hooked on Zumba and I now do it all the time. I am starting to see those sexy lines in my upper abs that I have never seen before, not even before having my 2 children! How is it a good ab workout? Zumba involves a lot of hip and ab movement in it, so it really gets your abs working.

2. Belly Dancing. Belly dancing is a great form of exercise after pregnancy because it has nice gentle movements, that let you ease back into working out again. These are good ab workouts for women because many of the exercises are geared towards the belly area... hence the name belly dancing. So, if you are looking for something different that can make you feel sexy as you do it, and also gets your abs in shape, belly dancing may just be what you're looking for. There are classes you can take at gyms, or DVDs you can do at home (Kathy Smith has a good one).

3. Yoga. Many people think that yoga is just a stress reliever (which, by the way, is great for a new mom of course), but in reality it is great for toning your body, including your abs. Think of strength training with weights, and now think of strength training using your own body weight. Essentially, that's what yoga is because you are using your own body weight as resistance. Although yoga is great for toning your overall body, it has moves that really work your abdominals. Try it out if you haven't already; there are many yoga DVDs and yoga classes that are offered all the time. Yoga is also offered on gaming systems, including the Wii Fit game.

4. Pilates. Pilates workouts are good ab workouts for women as the exercises are mainly targeted at the abdominals. This is another great exercise after pregnancy because it contains slower, but effective, movements for toning your body. An article on WebMD.com states "Many types of people, at many levels of fitness, who have begun doing Pilates exercises say they've seen improvements in range of motion, flexibility, circulation, posture, and abdominal strength". Again, Pilates is offered in gyms, as well as on gaming systems and on DVD.
5. Swimming. You have seen the bodies on swimmers, right? And have you noticed their abs? In one word, beautiful. Many people don't realize just how good of a workout swimming is, it is great for strength (from the resistance of the water), as well as a good cardio workout. What is perfect is that you don't get all of that icky sweating that comes along with a workout that is "on land". Swimming is a great abdominal workout because everything is coming from the core. In an article on abclocal.go.com, a swim coach by the name of T.J. Fry says "They are going to be using their abs to maintain the rotation, to maintain a straight line or a stable body form but they're also going to use their back a lot and that is the v-shape that you see with a lot of those swimmers". While any type of swimming is going to be beneficial, 2 good types of strokes for the abs are the butterfly and freestyle.
As we talked about here, all of these types of exercises are good ab workouts for women, but you also need to eat a healthy diet and do cardio and strength training on a regular basis. By combining all of these types of workouts on a regular basis, you will have both strength and cardio workouts. Remember, when it comes to exercise after pregnancy, always have your doctor's permission before beginning any kind of exercise routine.

Losing weight can be a challenge for many people. Being overweight is associated with many different health risks including heart attack, stroke, and diabetes, just to name a few. With all the promotions for fast food, busy lifestyles and economic hardship, weight loss is getting harder and harder every year. I've created this post to provide a road map to weight loss. I'll detail some key components of how to lose weight fast, and most importantly, keep it off! Healthy weight loss is two-fold:
Proper Nutrition, Not Starvation, Can Lead to Fast Weight Loss
Most people are under the impression that in order to lose weight, they need to stop eating. While this does have some truth to it, there is a lot more to losing weight than just not eating. It isn't a coincidence that so many people drop 10 or 20 pounds just to gain back everything they lost. By going on extreme low calorie diets, your body will go into starvation mode, because it doesn't know when it will get more nutrients! By eating so few calories, your body slows down its calorie burning processes and starts hoarding fat. This is why you see results initially, but as soon as you start to eat again, your body balloons right back to your initial weight. In addition to that, your body won't be getting the nourishment it needs to function properly. You may feel like you're always in a bad mood, tired, or even show signs of depression. Due to a hormone imbalance, you might constantly crave unhealthy foods. Assuming you're trying to exercise, you likely won't have the energy to get in a great workout or to repair properly afterwards.
The key to fast weight loss isn't always low calories. It is consuming the RIGHT calories. If you're exercising like crazy and trying to live on 1,000 calories per day, your body is going to be a mess! So what should you eat to lose weight quickly? Without getting too complicated, you want to consume hefty amounts of protein, fiber and water. You want to avoid or limit things like sugars, starchy carbs and fats.
You don't have to count every single calorie you eat. You just need to make sure what you're eating is healthy. One of the easiest methods to use for weight loss is the plate method. Separate your breakfast, lunch and dinner plate into sections as follows:
1. 1/2 your plate should be non-starchy carbs - I'm talking about VEGGIES especially. Things like broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, etc. That doesn't mean cover them in veggie dip or saute them in 5 tablespoons of butter either! Learn to love veggies for what they are. A good, healthy source of nutrients.
2. 1/3 of your plate should be lean protein - This is your fish, chicken, turkey, or any other lean meat. Things like beans are also great sources of protein.
The rest should be starchy carbs - This is a small portion of things like brown rice, wheat bread, wheat noodles, etc.
This isn't a state-of-the-art system, but it is a simple plan that everyone can follow that will work. If you look at your plate and you have 2 pieces of broccoli and a giant pile of noodles or fried rice, you need to make some adjustments.
Things to Eliminate Completely
In order to lose weight quickly, there are some common things you will have to get rid of completely:
1. White Flour - White flour and whole-wheat flour differ significantly in their nutritional value. In order to really get rid of that hard to lose belly fat, you need to let go of white flour products like white bread, white rice, tortillas, and anything else with white flour in it. What's the alternative? Whole wheat flour products

2. High Fructose Corn Syrup and other refined sugars - Read your ingredients! Sugar is a major factor in weight gain and the ability to lose weight fast. Sugar is sugar but getting your sugars from things like fruit, which provide some nutritional benefits, is much better than getting sugar from processed treats. What's the alternative? Eat things with natural sugars like fruit!
Exercise Leads to Muscle Definition and Keeping the Pounds Off
When it comes to weight loss, the most important benefits are the health benefits, but let's be honest, most people wouldn't mind having a better body too. As a trainer, I hear it all the time. "I want to tone up! Sculpt and tone. How do I get better muscle definition?" If your goal is to get some muscle definition, it doesn't matter how good your diet is. You have to exercise! Your muscles will not grow unless you make them work.

What Exercises Help You Lose Weight Fast?
Exercise, especially weight lifting, is not a simple thing. There are many different styles and techniques you can utilize. The exercise program that works best for you will depend on your goals and your individual body. There a few things just about everyone can count on when it comes to being able to lose weight fast:
1. You need to do cardio and Resistance Training - If you want to see the best results, you need to do a combination of cardiovascular exercise and weight lifting. I see people get frustrated all the time because they run on the treadmill for 60+ minutes per day but still don't look how they want. You cannot get muscle definition without muscles! In order to build muscle, you have to lift weights. And Vice Versa, to maintain a healthy heart and burn the most fat, you need to do some type of cardiovascular exercise.
2. Use a lot of full body exercises - When it comes to losing weight fast and burning fat, full body exercises typically work better than isolated exercises. An example of a full body exercise is a squat with a shoulder press. By using your legs, core and arms, you'll burn a significant amount of calories while improving your muscular strength. An example of a less effective calorie burning exercise would be a seated biceps curl. If your goal is to have nice biceps, this is a great workout for you. If your goal is to lose weight fast, you'll see much better results going with a high-calorie burner like the squat and press.

Can you really lose 30 pounds in 30 days? If so, can you burn an extra 3500 calories a day?
I have, like you, read lots of advertisements that make all kinds claims: like magic pills, complicated eating and exercise plans that claim to lose weight fast! Is this possible? Can we lose weight fast or is this a scam?
How would you like to lose twenty pounds of fat and keep it off forever?
First, can we lose weight fast?
Our popular culture would have us believe that the best way to lose weight is to lose it fast. This means putting ourselves in a state of denial and adhering to an eating regime that is usually unsustainable. Today, advertisers spend billions to show you how to get and eat fast foods, then they spend millions trying to convince you that you can lose weight fast. They tell you that you can lose decades of fat build retention in thirty days if you buy their products.
A lot of this marketing to lose the excess weight has been focused on eating carbohydrates and eliminating meat and protein from our diet. Perhaps we should all be vegetarians and just eat greens! It makes sense on a basic level, particularly when you look at our over eating, carbohydrate driven, fast food culture. However I personally have always thought there was something missing in the vegetarian ideals but I never new what it was. That is, until I heard Dr. Donald Layman speak.
According to Dr. Layman, the acknowledged worldwide expert in metabolism research, eating good protein is not the problem - in fact it is the solution. The truth exposed by Layman is that North American's are not eating enough good protein - particularly at the right time of day!
Layman states that belly fat is the most dangerous place to have excess weight, as it is a precursor to heart attacks and strokes. Typically, men gain fat around their waist and women gain the weight around the thighs. However both women and men are seeing their waistlines expand as they age. The average weight gain for both sexes is said to a minimum of ten pounds per decade. That's ten pounds of fat every ten years!
Take out a measuring tape and measure your waist. If your measurement is plus 35" plus for a woman or 40" plus a man, you are in the danger zone. You need to reduce your waistline and melt the belly fat now. Your life may depend on it!

Furthermore, as part of Dr. Layman's research, he states that losing weight fast may actually cause you to become fatter. If you have gained weight slowly for a decade you can't expect it to fall off in a few days.
Here's an exercise, do the math with me to see what it would actually take to lose weight fast.
Start with some basic measures like what is a Calorie (C), a Basal Metabolic rate (BMR), Lean Muscle Mass (LMM) and Activity Burn Rate (ABR). Do you really want to lose weight fast? Let's see?
Calculate your LMM for your BMR x C then add your ABR... STOP - this is way too complicated! Let's make it simple with some real numbers.
If you eat a very lean, healthy diet (like a bird!) your calorie intake is about 1940 C for women and 2550 C for men. The truth is that most of us have been gaining an average of 10 extra pounds of fat per decade. So we are all eating far more than this minimal amount of calories per day!
To lose weight fast, at the proposed rate of one pound per day - we need to burn an extra 3500 calories per day. To meet our goal to lose weight fast - 30lbs in 30 days, we have to eat like birds and burn about 6000 calories total per day.
This means we would need to do 4.2 hours of intense exercise per day on top of our normal activity and average BMR burn rate.

I guess it is possible, but not probable. Losing weight fast is definitely unlikely and it's probably dangerous! As a professional martial artist for 35 years and life long exercise teacher, I have never seen anyone accomplish anything like this. Not even close!
The truth is, even if you could lose weight this fast - the facts state that 99% percent of us would gain it all back - plus a couple of pounds!
Even worse is we would create a Yo-Yo effect by losing a high percentage muscle tissue during the weight loss stage. Then when we gained the weight back, most of this new excess would be fat. The yo-yo effect makes you fatter. So for all your suffering, self discipline and self-denial you wind up worse off than if you had never started.
Discouraged? Don't be - I do know what does work. I know, because I did it. I found a way to lose weight fast - a real loss of 9 lbs of fat and 2 1/2 inches off my waist in six weeks.

All without extra exercise, starving and super human discipline!
I'm losing the belly fat on a proper metabolic diet and it is not a sham or a scam. In fact it may be the easiest, most effect plan you have ever tried. It has over 30 years of clinical research and is now becoming the standard for losing weight effectively - particularly around the middle. Fasting, starving and living exclusively off salad are not necessary - in fact these diets work against your metabolic system and your long-term success to keep excess weight off.
Dr. Layman says you can naturally raise your metabolism by making balanced proteins your friend. Eat them early in the day and you will start to lose the cravings for carbohydrates and you'll begin to control your insulin needs. In my opinion, it's a scam to say that you could lose 30lbs in 30 days! However, I do think you can lose weight fast - but a realistic goal is to lose 20 pounds of fat in about 90 days.

This goal isn't rocket science but is revolutionary. It's based on the metabolism work and research of Dr. Donald Layman and it works like nothing you have seen before. The truth is, I have found it to be the most effective and real life plan to lose the weight that I have ever experienced.
